How do I add a transition between scenes?
Follow this workflow to add a transition between scenes.
Before you start
Choose the desired transition style and test scenes.
Where to find it
File > Transitions > Manage Transitions; layout Manage > Transitions.
Steps
- Choose New in Transitions.
- Enter a name and select Transition type.
- Choose Next.
- Keep Active enabled if the transition should appear in selectors.
- Adjust the settings for the type.
- Choose Preview Transition.
- Choose Save.
- Select it in the layout transition selector.
Check the result
Preview the transition and check timing and sound before the live take.
Helpful information
Cut is immediate. Fade blends shots. Swipe and Slide move them. Fade To Color uses a color and switch point. Luma Wipe uses a pattern, inversion, and softness. Stinger uses a media clip and a switch point in time or frames. Move matches source items and sets motion for matched, appearing, and disappearing items. Browser transitions use web/local content, timing, matte, and audio options. Visual presets include Zoom, Blur Dissolve, Cube, Fly, Glitch, Grid Flip, Ripple, Swirl, Noise Dissolve, 3D Swap, Diffuse, Page Curl, Pixelate, and CrossZoom. Defaults resets type settings. Set Default chooses the collection default. In Quick Transitions, choose an available transition, enter Duration (ms), and choose Add. This duration is separate from the saved transition. Remove deletes the quick button.
If something is wrong
If it looks wrong, check the selected transition, duration, and applicable preset settings.
