Signal subjects, scope and value mapping

Limit feedback to the intended item and translate state text for a receiving control.

Before you start

Open the intended collection and layout. Make changes during preparation and check a short rehearsal before using them in a live show.

Where to find it

Tools > Signal > Add or Edit.

Set it up

  1. Select the required Event and Subject.
  2. Choose the intended subject item from the available choices.
  3. Set Scope to the context you want to match.
  4. Choose the receiving target, device, control and feedback type.
  5. Leave Value mapping empty to keep normal values, or enter the text pairs your receiver requires.
  6. Save and test both states of the real event.

Scope and subject

The subject identifies the item; scope limits the context. Global and wildcard scope are broader than a specific layout. Use a layout-specific choice when feedback should not follow another layout.

Value mapping example

The field accepts JSON text pairs, for example {"true":"1","false":"0"} when those are the reported values and your receiver expects 1/0. This is a user-authored mapping example, not a required universal mapping. Inspect Live states before choosing the input text.

Feedback type

Set sends a value; On/Off sends the corresponding feedback action; Toggle changes the receiving state; Pulse requests a brief feedback action. Choose only a type the target supports. If feedback is repeatedly inverted, review both Type and Value mapping.

If the mapping fails

Use a valid pair of quoted text values, remove the mapping to compare normal delivery, and check that the incoming value matches the text exactly. Keep unrelated mappings disabled during a controlled test if they affect the same control.
