Trigger delays, cooldown and inactive cancellation

Control when an event’s actions start and prevent repeated or stale actions.

Before you start

Open the intended collection and layout. Make changes during preparation and check a short rehearsal before using them in a live show.

Where to find it

Trigger editor and Manage Actions > Edit.

Set it up

  1. Enter Start Delay (ms) for the initial wait after the event.
  2. Enter Cooldown (ms) for the minimum interval before another run.
  3. Enable Stop when inactive if pending work should stop when its scene/source is no longer active.
  4. Set each action’s Wait before action (ms).
  5. Use non-negative whole numbers, save the edits and rehearse the timeline.

Milliseconds

1000 ms is one second. With a 1000 ms Start Delay and 500 ms first-action wait, the first action starts after 1.5 seconds.

Action sequence

An action’s wait follows when the previous action starts, not when its media finishes. To respond to a clip ending, use a supported Playback Completed or Playback Remaining event instead of guessing its duration.

Cooldown and cancellation

Cooldown reduces repeated firing of a frequently changing event. Stop when inactive cancels delayed work for a scene/source that no longer applies; it is not the same as removing the trigger or undoing an action already performed.

If a late action still appears

Check the rule’s owner, cancellation choice and waits. Check whether another enabled trigger performs the same action. Disable the rule while correcting it.
