How do I use audio buses?

Follow this workflow to use audio buses.

Before you start

Decide which sources belong in each mix. For example, put speech on Bus A and music on Bus B.

Where to find it

File > Options > Audio Buses.

Steps

  1. Open File > Options > Audio Buses.
  2. Select a bus and choose Edit.
  3. Set Character, a useful Name, and Monitor Channel where needed.
  4. Enable the bus and choose Save.
  5. In Audio Mixer, set sends from the intended inputs to this bus. Exclude inputs you do not want in this mix.
  6. Open the output profile’s Audio Track and use Assign Input to select this bus.
  7. Save and test the output.

Check the result

Watch the chosen bus meter and listen through a configured monitor route. Make a short output sample to verify the bus assigned to the recording or broadcast.

Helpful information

Master is the final mix; buses A–H provide separate mixes. A bus combines its assigned inputs. A recording track receives the bus/input you assign.

If something is wrong

If an output is silent, check that the bus is enabled, its input sends are active, it is not muted, and the output track is assigned to that bus.
