Audio & monitoring

Set monitoring defaults for new audio inputs

Choose whether new inputs are assigned to operator monitoring and whether they begin muted or audible.

Before you start

Prepare the intended collection and check the result before a live show.

Where to find it

First setup Set up workspace, or the Collection profile editor.

Use it

  1. Review Automatically assign monitoring channel to audio inputs.
  2. Enable it to assign new audio inputs to monitoring channel 0, or disable it to assign monitoring yourself.
  3. Choose Monitoring input default status: Mute or Monitor.
  4. Save/Create the collection, then check a newly added audio input and the listening device.

Helpful information

These choices apply to new inputs; turning automatic assignment off leaves existing assignments unchanged. Mute and Monitor describe operator listening, rather than muting the source in a recording or broadcast. Changing the default does not rewrite the existing per-channel mute choices.

A channel assignment alone does not guarantee audible sound: the channel must be enabled and its Output Device and volume must be suitable. You can change each input’s monitoring sends later. Use headphones for your first check to avoid feeding speaker sound back into a microphone.
