Speaker and Room Echo Cleanup
Reduce speaker echo and room reverberation together, with playback-reference and strength controls.
Before you start
Open the intended collection and layout. Rehearse changes before using them during a live production.
Where to find it
Input Filters in Audio Mixer or the source’s filter action.
Use it
- Open the microphone/input’s Filters and add Speaker and Room Echo Cleanup.
- In File > Settings > System > Audio, make sure the Desktop Audio slot captures the speaker playback you want to reduce.
- In the filter, choose that Desktop Audio slot and adjust Reference delay (ms) if needed.
- Adjust Room echo reduction (%) gradually while speaking; compare the voice at different strengths.
- Record a short sample with speech and, if relevant, speaker playback.
- Listen to the completed sample and compare with the filter disabled.
Choose the right cleanup
Speaker Echo Cancellation reduces speaker playback picked up by the microphone. Room Echo Reduction reduces lingering room reverberation. The combined filter addresses both. These are different from muting an input, noise suppression or fixing duplicate routes.
Playback reference
Choose the Desktop Audio slot that actually receives the unwanted speaker playback. Do not use the microphone itself as its reference. Reference delay is adjustable from 0 to 500 ms; start low and compare samples. If the playback reference is missing or processing reports an error, check the selected device/slot and filter status before continuing; the affected sound may be muted.
Room echo reduction ranges from 0 to 100%. Higher strength can change the voice, so use the lowest effective setting.
These controls cannot promise removal of every echo. First avoid sending monitored playback back into its own capture, reduce speaker volume or use headphones, then check the filter with a sample.
