Why do meters move but the broadcast or recording is silent?

Check the selected output audio track, bus assignments, mute controls, and destination when meters move but viewers or recordings hear no sound.

Before you start

Identify whether the missing sound affects monitoring, recording, or broadcast.

Where to find it

Audio Mixer dock.

Steps

  1. Find the intended input in Audio Mixer and confirm its meter moves when the source makes sound.
  2. Check input mute and volume. Unhide the strip if needed; Hide only changes mixer presentation.
  3. Check sends to Master or the bus used by the output. Confirm any selected bus is enabled and not muted.
  4. Open the affected output profile’s Audio Track and verify Assign Input selects the intended Master, bus, or input.
  5. For a recording, confirm Record audio is enabled.
  6. Save the settings and verify a short finished recording or the actual receiving broadcast.
  7. If only headphones are silent, follow the separate audio-monitoring workflow.

Check the result

Verify a sample at the actual output destination.

Helpful information

The fader runs from silence to 0 dB. Positive gain is available through an audio Gain filter. Balance reduces the opposite channel; double-click to center. Mono combines channels; Stereo preserves them. Sync offset delays the input before routing. Monitoring is the sound sent to an operator listening device. Hiding a mixer strip does not mute it. Lock Volume protects the fader. Mixer options show hidden/inactive inputs, move them right, or change horizontal layout.

If something is wrong

Check mute, enabled bus sends, Record audio where applicable, and the output’s Audio Track assignment. Hiding a mixer strip does not mute it.
