Audio preferences and default monitoring

Choose always-available audio inputs, meter behavior and the default listening output.

Before you start

Open the intended collection and layout. Make changes during preparation and check a short rehearsal before using them in a live show.

Where to find it

File > Settings > System > Audio.

Set it up

  1. Select the intended Global Audio Devices; disable slots you do not need.
  2. Use Refresh audio devices after connecting a missing device.
  3. Choose Decay Rate and Peak Meter Type for your meter display.
  4. Choose Default Monitoring Output for listening.
  5. Review Show inactive sources, Keep inactive sources to the right and Disable system audio ducking.
  6. Choose Save, then listen with headphones and check a short recording.

Global audio devices

These microphone and desktop slots are available independently of a scene-specific capture source. Disabled slots do not capture. Avoid capturing the same microphone in a global slot and a scene source unless you deliberately need both.

Meters

Decay Rate changes how quickly the displayed level falls. Peak Meter Type changes the kind of peak display; it does not itself change the sound being recorded.

Monitoring and routing

Default Monitoring Output is a listening device. Collection Monitor Channels can select their own output devices. Audio buses, monitor channels and output audio tracks control different parts of the sound path. Hearing a source does not prove it is assigned to a recording track.

Mixer display and ducking

Inactive-source controls change mixer organization. Disable system audio ducking prevents communications activity from lowering MCast monitor playback where supported; it is separate from adjusting a source’s level.

If sound repeats or feeds back

Check duplicate capture and monitor playback being captured again. Use headphones, mute the unintended capture, and verify each recording track separately.
