Window Capture

Capture one application window.

Before you start

Open the intended collection and layout. For capture or network inputs, have the device or sender available.

Where to find it

Sources > Add > Window Capture.

Use it

  1. Open the scene that will contain the source.
  2. Choose Add in Sources.
  3. Select Window Capture in Create Source.
  4. Enter a name and choose New.
  5. Open the target application.
  6. Choose Window.
  7. Use Automatic Capture Method unless another method is needed.
  8. Choose Window Match Priority.
  9. Set cursor and supported audio/capture options.
  10. Choose Save and Close (or OK where shown).
  11. Check the source in Preview before taking it to Program.

Controls and additional tasks

Client Area excludes the window border where supported. Force SDR adjusts supported HDR capture. Multi-adapter capture is for windows that need it. A saved specific-window selection remains when the window is temporarily unavailable.

Save and CloseSave Window Capture settings. Shortcut: Ctrl+S.
CancelClose without saving changes.

If something is wrong

If the window is missing, open it and refresh. If capture is black, try another offered method and review capture permissions.

Stop or remove

Hide the source to stop showing its picture. Use its available playback/connection stop control when you need to stop the input itself. Remove the source item from the scene when it is no longer needed. Shared sources can still be used in other scenes.
